Anytime you take weight or resistance off the front of the motor you will gain H.P. But I don't know how it may effect the performance of the truck..One of the items the computer uses to set the fuel mixture is engine temp..How will you regulate this?

As long as you use a good fan with an adjustable thermostat, the engine temp can be maintained to the correct temp for the computer. Also remember the computer gets it temp info from the thermostat in the upper radiator hose. Now comes the problem....Most who have tried an electric fan have had problems with over-heating. My research seems to point to the stock radiator as being too small for the truck to begin with. I would look into a more efficent and larger aluminum raditor to go with your electric fan. This should help keep the motor cool and unlease about 5-10hp.

Hope this helps!

Hmmmm...much more to consider than I thought...Thats ok though, thats the fun of it all right? Anyway, I'll see what I can do with it.Thanks for the info. Oh by the way I just changed my first set of spark plugs in an explorer...AAAAHHHHRRRRRRGGGG!!!!! Next time Im payin a friggin mechanic!

Pendarus gives good info and advice.

If you go electric, I'd recommend a Spal fan or possibly the fan that is used on the Lincoln Mark 8. Both of these are very reliable and pull a lot of air.

Consider upgrading your alternator to handle the added current drain from the electric fan. I'd recommend at least a 130 Amp model.

I agree with Pendarus that the stock plastic and aluminum radiator is a little undersized for the application. A more effecient model would be a good idea, preferably all aluminum construction.

Having said all this, it seems a big price to pay for just a few HP. So while this mod can be effective in freeing up HP, it might not be a cost effective mod.

Hmm thats true...hmmm...Ill have to think about it...hmmm...

300ZX

The back p-side plugs are tough, but if you think the Explorer's spark plugs are hard to change, you should try it on a Nissan 300ZX! Just about have to pull the engine on one of those.
