Hello,
I recently bought a used open trailer. It is rated at 7,000 lbs and has trailer brakes on 1 axle. One side locks up and the other side doesn;t have hardly any braking force at all. It pushes the rear end of my truck sideways if i brake really hard. lIke not actually making it slide, but you can feel it jerking the truck. i have no idea how to service electric brakes or what to look for. It'
s a 2 year old landscape type trailer. If anyone has any experiance with this please let me know.

Check all the wiring for the trailer brakes on the trailer, it's possible it's something as simple as a bad connection to the offending side. If that's not the problem and you're seeing power the at brake you may need to rebuild the brakes on that side. Trailer brakes are just like drum brakes on a car except they're electrically actuated.

Check the wiring but you can also have one out of adjustment. If you turn the voltage up on your brake control and the problem goes away you should adjust the brake. Behind the backing plate is a slot with a rubber stopper. Remove the stopper and you can reach the star adjuster adjust the star adjust until the wheel stops turning then back it off a little about two steps. Then try the brakes again if that doesn’t work time to open every thing up and take a look. You can get complete brake assemblies that just bolt on from. http://shop.easternmarine.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.catalog&categoryID=149
Good prices have used them a few times.
