:fire: K....I dunno where to begin ;( My '97 X-sport started doing some pretty weird things; the first thing I noticed was that the drivers-door speaker started cutting out. The weird part was that by playing with the heater controls would get it back. Every time. Then the heat stopped. The fan blows okay....no heat. Then I noticed that the AC compressor was on whenever the control panel for the heat was on, not necessarily AC. I have a Haynes manual, not really telling me anything. I originally thought it could be the PCM, but the manual states it's on the firewall. I'm thinking the control for anything electrical *inside* the truck would be located in, say the console. Am I far off? Any help whatsover would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am getting a check engine light. What are people using for code readers? Oh I also swapped out the control panel for the heat, it didn't resolve it. Thanks again! ARRRRGH!!!!

 Thanks bud...i'll check out AutoZone, but what's a gem?

electrical problems are HELL. could be a loose wire, bad connector loose ground, all hard to find. I would first get the codes read and take care of that.

The A/C compressor running when the heater is on is normal. It runs in "defrost" mode to help dehumidify the hot air.....

Try turning the heat settign to "floor" ..it should shut off on that.

Codes read...running lean

:fire: Howdy! K....I went to AutoZone and had my codes read...P0174 and p0171 which translates loosely into..."running lean on bank 1...running lean on bank 2" Anybody know how to address this? Is this an EGR or PDFE sensor??? I was sort of hoping it would point me to the source of my electric problems..but guess not LOL If anyone has any idea how to fix this I would be *very* greatful!! The AutoZone kid had no idea! Thanks everyone- IronMike

Could be a vacuum leak. I had the same codes a while back. I got it fixed at the dealer because I couldn't find it. It was a vacuum leak @ the intake manifold where the tube from the back of the EGR valve connects. Try a search for those two codes and see what others did to fix it. It could be a number of things.
