My father-in-law bought my 1996 Explorer XLT 5.0 V8 AWD from me. He was working on the A/C when he ran across a switch that was lying under a couple of components. After a little detective work he found out that it is supposed to be mounted to the right fender. It basically looks like an oversized door jamb switch and has two wires coming off of it. Can anyone tell me what this switch is for? I bought the vehicle brand new and that switch was never mounted. If the A/C didn't go out on it it still would be lying there. Thanks in advance for the help.

Tim

i think its for a factory alarm.

a picture may go a long way to help someone figure it out, can you post one?

sounds like its the factory alarm, it will trip if the switch is opened or closed, whichever position it wasnt in when it was armed....

It could also be a part of an aftermarket remote start setup. Mine has one so the engine can't be started by the remote while the hood is up and you are working on it

prob just a unused connector, ford dosnt make a differant harnes for each option package. best bet is to look at the pins in the conector and make sure its unused, just look to see if its full of crap if so, just stick it somewhere out of the way
