Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone ever had to replace the electronic flasher control on a 99 Explorer? The reason I am asking is that mine is starting to go and I believe it is becuase I pull a trailer and the control is only rated for four lamps. (The trailer makes six total) The odd thing is it has the tow package on it but the local dealers and auto part stores tell me the only one available is the 4 lamp one.

Has anyone else run into this? Have you tried a different size 8 lamp one? I am just about stumped on this and don't really feel like replacing this thing every two years just becuase I pull a little tent trailer.

Thanks for your help!

The trailer lamps are hooked up in parallel with the truck's lamps. The outputs from the multifunction switch are used to trigger the relays for the trailer's turn/brake lights. That's why the flasher doesn't need to be heavy-duty, and the flash rate doesn't change with the trailer connected.

What makes you think you need to replace the flasher? Is it not functioning correctly?

The flashers stall for lack of a better word. You can activate the turn signal and it will start but after about 15 seconds of blinking it just stays lit. After that its hit and miss as to whether they will blink or not. As soon as you give it a rest for a while then it will blink again. I was starting with the flasher becuase I had similar issues with older vehicles and replaced the flasher with a more heavy duty one becuase of the tent trailer
