Does anybody know of a way to R&R the pivot arm without having to remove the axles? Mine are rusted and need to be freed up or replaced, but I don't see a way of getting enough clearance to remove them without removing the axle, or cutting clearance into the hub (not a great plan).

My two cents....I do not know of a way without pulling the axles. Pulling the axles is not the toughest of jobs, draining the differential is the messiest, but then again, you get to change the fluid while you are in there. If the pivot arm is rusted, could be the rest of the emergency/parking brake shoes, drum and hardware are in just as bad of shape or worse.

Drum and shoes are new, and the backing plate is still pretty decent. I have the new cables sitting on my workbench, but no sense in installing them when the pivot is seized. I did use heat and penetrating oil to free one up, but I doubt that it will stay that way too long.

You can tap them out with a hammer very easy, no need to pull axels. You can buy new ones from Ford, but very pricey. Sand them down and paint, then use anti-seize on them. Be careful with the rubber boots, they are NLA...

Tap them out??? I had them loosened from the back plate no problem, but couldn't get them past the hub no matter which way I turned and twisted. What's the secret!! :hammer:
