So Ive been using others threads that have succesfully fixed there issues with a p1071, and p1074 code and I still cant getter done. Its a 2000 ford explorer 4.0. Its been idling like crap for a long time but now I cant pass emissions. I replaced the upper and lower gaskets on the intake manifold. I put in a new pcv valve. I had a new fuel filter added about 3 months back. I went down to autozone and replaced the master air flow sensor wich didnt make a difference so I brought it back and cleaned the old one. Then today after I finished the gaskets i started the truck and it still idled like crap so I pulled the maf and it idled like a champ. Im at a loss here. Is it the 02 sensors ?

Is it the OHV? or SOHC? if you have the OHV, the intake is plastic?, make sure it not leaking as well, I had to use epoxy to fill in on mine. runs good now
good luck

mission complete

I was talking to a couple of really cool mechanic cats at walts in seattle and after they heard all the work I did they decided to give me a hand. They hooked up there smoke machine to the intake system and we found a little leak at the idle air valve. I guess the gaskets needed to be changed on that to. Threw a little liquid gasket on it and she purrs like a kitten again. Past emmisions this morning.

thanks for the reply and thanks to the walts auto guys.
