A bit of a precursor, I bought my '15 XLT this Saturday and it was agreed upon that the base remote system would be enabled prior to pickup. I briefly went through the left hand cluster menu options while I was there, but to be honest it wasn't the primary focus of my prechecks before driving off the lot. Long story short, I didn't try verifying it until I got home later that day.

Anyway, so I get it home, and low and behold, the option is not showing up.

My question is, after talking with the salesman, the service technician who did the "enabling" prior to pickup said the IDS came back saying the incorrect antenna was equipped. Now I've read of the hood switch not being installed in some cases, but I haven't seen anything about the incorrect antenna being installed...

Can anyone lend their knowledge confirming the information I was given about the incorrect antenna? Looking at the PDF from Riley, or conversations offline with Jason, there's no mention on this.

Maybe it's something new on the 15? I'm curious because I have one too.

The 15 is no different. There is a warning that pops up saying the antenna needs to be installed. There is NO antenna for the Explorer so you just tell it to enable remote start. Chances are he saw that and misinterpreted it.

That's what I'm guessing, too. After rereading your sticky I noticed mention of the IDS warning and wondered if the service tech just wasn't in the mood with it being a Saturday, first thing in the AM, to look into it too much and too the warning as a showstopper.

I've got a 3PM appt on Wednesday to iron it out.

If a vehicle that requires an additional antenna or a hood switch and doesn't have one installed it will just fail to enable the remote start and come up with a fail message. Never heard of it detecting a "type" of antenna it has.

I'm just curious as to why there was no mention of this in the first place when the member went to pick up the vehicle, especially after requesting remote start activation.

Tell the dealer to do a We Owe to fix it. They stated that it would be done but it wasn't so...

10-4. It's not so much the fact that it didn't get done and the tech gave up on it without reading much into the "warning" about the antenna as it was the slight panic/confusion when I heard that's why it didn't get done.

I didn't buy the X for this feature, but it's one of those hidden gems that makes the whole ownership experience that much sweeter. I've wanted to have a vehicle with remote start for awhile, but with aftermarket quotes north of $400 from local installers, I've never taken the plunge.

Anyway, if luck will have it, I'll have my IKT key by then and they can cut it for the $0.50 in time it costs them to "make it right" :D

Cheers guys - thanks for your help. I'll follow-up tomorrow with what I get figured out.
