Hey guys, my father and I worked on my Explorer today. We replaced the coolant temperature sending unit thinking it would erase the problem my truck has been having for a while now. Even when it's nice outside (in the 70s and 80s), my truck says that the coolant temperature is hot, CONSTANTLY. This can't be right because the engine is running perfectly. Also, the 'check gage' light is on for a while, then turns off, then turns back on. The new coolant temperature sending unit did not do what we needed it to do, any ideas on what might fix the problem? It's aggravating when you commute 50 miles a day and your car says it's overheating all the time.

Suggestions?
Thanks!

I would replace the thermostat, flush the radiator system, maybe try an after market gauge, swap in a new water pump.

Thermostat, rad flush, and coolant temp sensor how to vids in the link in my signature.

I would say it is most likely the thermostat.

Aren't there two temp senders? Which one did you replace?
