Where is the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor located on a 1998 Ford Explorer, it is a V6 4.0 SOHC engine.

there are two
one for the ECM and one for the dummy guage.
They are right next to each other, under the intake plenum.
Kinda of a tough task to get to. I had to do mine three times when I put in my AM water temp guage. ( no, sorry I did not do a write up. I am such an a$$ )

It's a lot easier to change them with the intake manifold off. It's not tough to do... Couple of vacuum lines, and a dozen extra screws and you've got a clear shot at 'em.

But BE CAREFUL!!! The brass inserts molded into the housing don't like to be twisted very hard, and the housing is not available seperately. The housing assembly (including both sensors and the thermostat, is $250+.
