Engine Gone.. need SOHC experts fast!

Now that was fast! I had two bolts in the bellhousing that would not come out. I finally took a torch to heat the boss on the engine enough to let go. I was working alone but I bet it could be done alone in that time if everything went as planned. It seemed like every bolt was loaded with lock tight. By the way, did they have roller lifters in the 91 4.0? I also could definitely used your friends help with this!

Im not sure about the roller lifters in the 91.. never took one of them out.

And i mis-typed that last post.. my friend and I had it out, this is his 4th engine swap; my 3rd.

Yea those bell housing bolts were a pita!. We used 3 long extentions and hit them with an impact gun from behind the t-case. Then since the top two were damn near impossible to get to, we tightened them up from the top f the engine before tightening the motor mounts.

I gotta admit, when it comes to pulling/dropping an engine... explorers are a piece of cake once everything disconnected and the hoods removed- basically goes straight up. (*its just the removal of everything thats a pita!)

Yes, it is a 4wd auto. The reason I asked about the lifters is because, since I thought it was a cracked head or gasket, everything was off the top of the block. I pulled up on one of the lifters for no reason and found it had rollers. I thought they started the rollers later. You are right about the instalation, it is super easy to install but quite a chore, time consuming, to hook up ALL of the sensors, etc. I did find a problem I am going to need to call them about. On the left side of the oil pan there is a fairly large sensor that the new engine doesn't have a hole for. Other than that I do feel better with all new parts since it is for my 'first time' driver. Hopefully it lasts through high school.

that wouldnt be the oil pressure sending unit ? There should just like be a bolt in its place...
 






The threaded hole I was talking about is approximately 3/4" across and right at the bottom of the pan. I was thinking it might be an oil temperature sending unit or low oil level sender. In the same place on the new pan there is a hole about the same size but no threads and the hole doesn't go clear through. I suppose a person could either take the new pan off and drill and tap it or, if they are the same, use the old pan.

no i just got the normal reman engine. though it's still supposed to be better than stock because every part is upgraded to be stronger. and im pretty sure if you get the performance set-up you have to do something with the computer otherwise your air/fuel ratio and compression settings will be messed up..
 






my father has a 2001 sohc V6 explorer sport the intake is alot different from the one on ebay his kinda looks like a GM LS-1 intake but smaller which is different from the 99 intake. the timing chain tensioner problem was resolved in 2000 i think. I know 01 dont have the problem :thumbsup:
 






The Sensor that goes in the side of the oil pan should be the "Low Oil" warning sensor.
 






2,500 for a rebuilt tranny? Thats a little steep. Considering the Jasper tranny won't be any beefier than the one you have. I'd just have a reputable shop rebuild it for 1,500.
