I have a 97 sport with the 4.0 engine. (base engine). It hase the awd system w/ 4H and 4L. Lately I have noticed a hesitation when passing or accelorating quickly. I have even had the engine light come on for a while and then goes off, so it isn't the O2 Sensor. I live at 6400 feet above sea level so we have 85 octane gas instead of 87 octane. I put 93 octane in for a tank, and things seemed to be better. I drive other 4.0 fords here (97 areostar work van w/ awd) with no gas problems. Any ideas?

Oh, it has 71,000 miles on it.

Get it scanned for trouble code(s), and then post the results here; someone will help you.

Good luck ....

Thanks Al, unfortunately a scan read at the local dealerships here in Jackson Hole are $85. More costly is that I have to leave my X at the dealership the whole day. I will get it scanned as a last measure, or as soon as it does it again. Meantime, I thought I would see what insight the x community can offer....tp

Sorry, but without the code(s), its a crap shoot.

Fair enough, just for S & G's, does anyone have a good source for an o2 sensor? I think the dealer here quoted around $155 for our work van. (4L also). Maybe a good throttle body cleaning would help. tp
