My 2000 Ford Explorer has a 4.0 SOCH Engine. It would not idle when cold and would idle spiratically when warm. The check engine light was also on. When I had the Check Engine light tested at the Auto parts store it showed that my idle air control valve was bad. I replaced the idle air Control with new one. It now idles spiratically and then dies. It will start back up idle for a while spiratically and then die again. The check engine light is also back on after having it reset and showing the same code. Is the new IAC bad or is it possibly something else.

as it's the SOHC engine, odds are high that you need to replace your intake manifold gaskets/o-rings, or have another vacuum leak. before you tear into anything else, try cleaning your MAF sensor. it's always possible you got a defective IAC valve. it's probably warrantied, return it and get another one. what were the codes found when the CEL came on? i'll bet P171 and/or P0174.
