engine light flashes on and off

I have a problem with my 94 explorer that I'm hoping someone might have an answer for because all the mechanics I take it to are clueless to the problem. The problem occurs 10 -15 minutes into driving. The engine light flashes and each time it flashes the car jerks. I notice that it happens more so over bumps also. When I go offroading a go over a large rock the engine light comes on and the the car revs to about 2,000 rpms without even touching the gas pedal. It also happens more so when I tow my boat. The only mod I have is a 7 inch lift. Any ideas?

When the engine light is flashing it means the processor is currently picking up an engie misfire. Once the misfire is gone the light will probably stay on untill the codes are retrieved. The misfire code(s) will be in the 300's. for example..P301 is cylinder 1 misfire, P302 is cylinder 2 and so on. If you get a P300 it's a random misfire not specific to any one cylinder.

My 91 did something similar to this when the MAF sensor kept slowly unplugging it self. Other than that I have no idea.
