I have a '96 Explorer Sprt . . . While the truck is idling, I can hear the engine slightly sputter every now and then. I think it is misfiring. Can anyone tell me how to diagnose this problem and to fix it. Thanks:D

Mine does the same thing. I can hear it mostly out of the tailpipe. I beleive it's clogged fuel injectors. Are you getting any other symptoms?

Jason_25,

I don't think I have any other symptoms . . .

I'll try to clean my injectors to see if that takes care of the problem.

Thankx

Do you have a rough idle at all?

I had misfiring on mine too and it turned out two of my plugs went bad at 40,000 miles!!! great 100,000 mile plugs ford gives us. lol

Ford's plugs are actually rated at 60k miles on a 'severe duty cycle'. In my experience, any driving of an Explorer causes it's engine to suffer extreme duty!

LOL :D

Jason_25,

No, it seems fine at idle. Just those small, but noticeable, sputters. I recently changed out the plugs & wires. I also took apart the air intake box, cleaned the MAF with brake cleaner, and put in a new air filter.

Did you reset the computer after you did your maintenance. Sometimes the system needs to relearn its settings after things have been cleaned/replaced.

TPLYNCH,

Yes, I unplugged my battery while I did each maintenance job. :D
