I just noticed this about my '91 ex, and was wondering if anyone knew what could be the problem. You see, during acceleration from a full stop the engine misses a couple times. It only happens at a full stop.
Any ideas???

replace plugs and wires

use some fuel cleaner and try running some high end fuel through it. when it's cold out the engine needs more octane.

you gotta find out whats its missing from, fuel or spark first then replace parts accordingly. you need an ignition tester to test the plugs/wires and an injector pulser/noid lights to test the injectors. injectors could be real dirty, intake could be carboned up real bad, plugs and/or wires could be worn out

Sounds like plugs and wires...

My Explorer just got out of the shop for a miss in the engine. I had replaced the plugs and wires but that did not do any good. It ended up being that I had a stuck valve, so the heads came off and they replaced the seals. And now it runs like brand new! But it was a little bit more $$$ than originally suspected...

I had the same problem. It turned out to be my coil pack....i had bought a new one, and the new one turned out to be bad....so I bought ANOTHER ONE after like a year of f&*@ing replacing parts.

check the secondary resistance on the coil with a multimeter. 6-11.5k ohms is within spec.

if thats not the problem, pull the plugs and check them out (gap, electrode color/condition and ceramic insulator condition), replace as needed.... and do a compression test. Those two things alone will give you a wealth of information about your general engine health. If all else fails, get a manual and do all of the multimeter tests that you can before buying new parts.

of course a general tune up is always recommended...fuel filter/clean maf/new plugs/new wires/new air filter......make sure everything is plugged in under the hood....

colder weather does not require higher octane although it does advance the timing. try cleaning your mas airflow sensor and change the plugs and wires

I have the same problem and have had it for a while now. I replaced the plugs and wires, and it helped for a week. After pulling out the new spark plugs, low and behold - oil was on my #2 plug - very bad thing. I had the compression checked and #1 and #2 cylinders were pushing only 50 pounds of pressure. This is where it gets a bit tricky, especially for a novice mechanic such as I. It could be a host of anything from valve and piston problems to a cracked head, and can cost anywhere (here anyway) from $400.00 to $1200.00. Could require a total rebuild/replacement, just some grinding or anything in-between.
Unless you are advanced in engine repair, I would recommend taking it to a Certified mechanic to have it pressure tested and repaired. Just a thought.
