Engine Noise Problem Please Help !!!!!

ENGINE NOISE PROBLEMS PLEASE HELP!!!! Hi All, I going to try to explain in english, hope you understand my problem, last night my wife call me because her 2002 Ford Explorer XLT dont want to start, I try switching batteries with my 2001 expy without results, it's makes a noise like a bad starter, i start to move the starter switch fast and sudenly start up but with a horrible noise inside the engine a "CLAN,CLAN,CLAN" like the engines have something loose inside or the engine without oil, well i check the oil stick theres oil in the engine clean and without water or metal material, the engine has coolant, but sounds like the engine dont have oil or something loose inside the engine. Well my question is: How i know if i have to change the engine or what do you thing i have to do.

PS: The millages of the Explorer are in the range of 112,000 or 114,000 i realy dont remenber well. any help going to be apreciate or any experience to share.
