Engine Noise

I received my 1997 Explorer Sport 4.0 SOCH V6 with control trac 4x4 from my parents in april... i got it with about 106,000 miles on it. I have this LOUD ticking noise you could call it coming from the back of engine on the passenger side. i have heard and been told it is so many different things and i dont want to start taking things apart that i dont have to... i have been told it is something that broke in my timing chain... i was told it was my OHC... my lifters... then my camshaft posioning sensor... does any one have any suggestions because i keep getting the run around... it still runs great...

Welcome to this forum! Do you hear this noise all of the time or just at a certain temperature or under a load?

Did you check the oil pressure with a test gauge?

no i havent. i'll have to talk to my auto shop teacher and see when he'll let me bring it in to do so...
