When accelerating from 2000 rpms to 3000 rpms I get this rattling noise, once I get off the throttle it goes away. Sometimes it goes like there is a thumping noise coming from the engine when it is also makeing the rattleing noise. I have cleaned the MAS, IAC and the throttle body. I haven't changed the spark plugs yet, on the coil pack the first two plugs have white corrosion on them the rest are fine. The engine sometimes idles rough and the whole truck shakes bad, and i sounds like the exhaust it going to fall off. Is it missing? Sometimes it lacks power. Should I replace the spark plugs and wire first or, should I run sea foam through the engine? And hope it fixes the pinging.

If the whole truck is shaking badly when you're driving (20+ mph) then u should probably u-joints replaced, or atleast have them looked at. As far as the rattling, im not too sure. I've got a rattling problem too but i havent been hearing it as much lately. I added a quart of oil since i was low and im running some fuel system/combustion chamber cleaner through the tank right now and the rattling has cut down a bit. I only hear the noise when the truck is in motion, so it could could be pinging cuz the engine is under a load or maybe its the transfer case...:\

Sounds like the heat sheild on your exhaust is making the rattling noise. It also sounds like your lower intake manifold bolts could use retorqed.

Nope not the hear shield I cut the peice off that was rattling. The noise when I accelerate is almost like little peices of metal are flying around inside the engine. The shaking is when it is in park. Not when I am driving.

How is your gas mileage?

Sucks,I get about 143 miles to a full tank

Are getting any gas smells coming out the exhaust?

Well after driver, When I shut it off and get out and walk down the drivers side and walk around the back, (drivers side back corner) I smell gas.

Sounds like your fuel pressure regulator is shot.Check the vacume line on it for gas,its on the passenger's side fuel rail:D

When I was tighting the lower intake manifold I accidently pulled the hose for it off and couldn't get the little boot thing, finially got it but , the boot wasnt wet inside, the hose barely fits inside the boot, it can pull out easly. One hose that it wet though is the vacum line that goes to cruse control, Inside of that hose is damp.

Do you know where its at?One line is vacume and the other line is for the fuel and there is two 10mm bolts holding it down, its a little bit bigger than a golf ball:D

Yea that is what i knocked the vacum line off of. Its on the pass. side towards the front of the engine, kind of covered by a hose.

Thats it:D If there is gas in that line then it is bad,and will create very bad gas mileage, and could damage your O2 sensor aslo:(

Nope no gas in the line.

White corrosion on the plugs is probally your intake gasket leaking.it still sounds like the FPR to me:(

Its not the plugs it in the coil pack and on the wires that plug into the coil pack.

How much in the FPR

Oh I didnt know that:D

FPR is about 57 at autozone.I have had 4 first gen explorers and I have had to change FPR in all of them:(

What could cause the first to shockets on the coil pack to corrode like that
