Engine Problems

I have had trouble with rough start and engine knocking upon start up on a cold engine. The spark plugs have all been replaced. The first go around the number 2 and number 4 went bad after replacing. I just had all the plugs replaced and it worked fine for a few days, but now the rough engine running has returned. What could possibly make a spark plug go bad especially when it is new? The eec tests and other engine checks have turned up nothing.

I also had the valve cover gasket replaced and the o ring replaced after the check engine light came on. The check engine light has also come on when the spark plug misfires. Any help is appreciated.

Engine knocking goes along with the chain guide tensioner problem.
On the 98, there's an extended warranty on the front chain guide tensioner.
Hope that it's not the rear - no warranty on that 1, and it's pricey to get to - rear of engine.
