In the next few days I have to decide if i want to buy a rebuilt engine with no warranty for 1099.00 or a rebuilt for 1799.99. Right now I have two grand put away for the engine but to put the engine in and everything run another 700.00 for towing and installation so i will have to save more money.

1099.99 + 700.00= 1799.99 for engine no warranty
1799.99 +700.00 = 2499.00 or engine w warranty

but you also have to factor in 150.00 for shipping & 250.00 core charge
till return old block

A few suggestion woould be great

Thanks
Chris

find a used one in good shape, and throw some new gaskets on it, the 4.0 is good for at least 250k if you take care of it,

Unless I've dealt with the company many times, and know how they work, I'd never buy a motor with no waranty. Its too easy for them to cut corners.

I'd have to agree, a good and clean, used engine, check for apparent stuff (turning crank by hand, pull plugs etc) and like EMG7895 said, change valve cover gaskets and stuff. At least you know in what state its in. No warranty on stuff like that is pretty scary and can also get real expensive real quick if the work's shoddy.

I pulled one from a 2000 and stuck it in my 91. Motor cost about 750 and has been in for about 2 years. There are places around here where you can get a shortblock for about 100 bucks with a 30 day warranty.

I have a friend that owns a salvage yard in south GA. Its called capital Auto Parts. They are the only people I buy engines from, becuase I know they only sell good engines. 1800-868-7879 or www. capitalautoparts.com

Anyone can help you, chris is the owners son. Tell him Leo's grandson Brett told you to call. You'll get a good price, a 30 day warranty, and I know it'll be a good motor for you.

What company is supposed to be the company that the engines, with and without the warranty, are being rebuilt by? There are places in Florida that rebuild your motor OR install a rebuild for you right at their facility AND provide you with a warranty.
I have heard of companies like Fred Jones (Ford's engine rebuilder) only putting into a rebuild what is needed. You'll get all different sized parts in a rebuild from them (bearings (main and camshaft), gaskets, etc., depending upon what they HAD TO turn or shave off of what part(s)).
Under the Vehicles for Sale category there was someone selling a 1993 or 1994 XLT and wound up parting it out instead, and he was in New York. That might be a cheap fix for finding a good running engine. I have also started to browse "Craig's List", a free internet advertising site that has locations all over the country. You might find a cheapcheap complete vehicle there for parts. There is also another ad inder Parts for Sale here where someone is trying to sell a complete truck that will no longer pass the Pa. State Inspections for $300.00.
