Engine rebuild

i heard that you lose hp when you get a rebuilt engine. mines in the shop right now and im getting it rebuilt for $1700. i just cant figure out how that could be. also if you get dual exhaust do you lose torque. i read on a post somewhere on here you will lose torque. i dont know so im asking.

I have never seen an engine loose power because it was rebuilt. The key is proper assembly. Many engine rebuilders throw engines together as fast as they can, in order to make a profit. If the engine is not assembled properly ( rings not clocked properley, tollerences not checked, etc..) there is a greater chance that it will not produce the proper amount of power, but if care is taken, and everything is done properley, the engine can actually produce more power than it origionally did.

Mr Boyle is right. If the engine is rebuilt right, it should be back at the factory compression and have as much power as it did before. On the dual exhaust, most people say that you will lose some torque on the V6 with a dual exhaust. I have the V8, and it felt like I gained torque and horsepower. If you go with a dual setup stick with 2 1/4" pipes and you should be fine. Thats what I used on my dual setup on my V6 S10 and it didnt feel like it lost torque either.

hey thanks for replying the guy doing it said if i wanted to see some of the stages of the process that i could come up there and he would let me watch him work. i thought that was pretty neat considering im 17 and most adults just usually blow us off and dont give a damn about what we have to ask. he sounds nice to me. about the exhaust i think i will just stick with the single exhaust. i heard the flowmaster delta 40 is good. do you have a website where i could order this or give me a price range im looking at here that is normally how much they should run for. i want the whole package not just the muffler. pipes,brackets,tips,etc. thxs!
