Engine Sputtering and Intermittent engine failure.

Hey all! today my car died on the road seemingly for nothing 2 times. I was sitting at light for a couple minutes. Then all of the sudden there was a flash of the battery signal a loud thud and the engine died. After alot of cussing, I turned the key off and back on it took me a couple tried, but the car turned back on but it really really reved the engine and stayed that way for a couple seconds then went into its lower idle.....any ideas?? this was the situation both times....I have driven alot lately....I hope I dont have an engine rebuild in my near future.... any ideas

you might have gotten a CEL go to autozone and check your codes. this will narrow it down much better than all of our speculations.

but just in case the CEL is no answers my speculation is a dirty MAF or a bad IAC.
