my engine will stall at Idle now. it will run at 750 rpm and then burp and stall. I have to keep my foot on the throtlte to keep the rpm's above 1000 and then it runs smooth. from what I have read it sounds like it is the IAC valve. do you guys agree or could it be somthing else

Thanks for the input
Neil

The IAC is the first place I'd start.

The next place to check would be your fuel pressure regulator. It may not be holding enough pressure for you.

Let me know what happens.

i just cleaned my IAC valve yesterday, it was covered with lots of nasty residue on the inside......i idle a bit better, but its still ruff.
start there maybe that will help u though.

what is the IAC? Where is it?

well I have cleaned my IAC with carb cleaner and it still didn't do the trick. the one thing that I havn't hered anybody mention is the electrical contact point between the plunger and the sensor on the IAC, I am going to clean that next. then I will check the fuel regulator and replace fuel filter, its about due anyways.

OOOPS
sorry for the double post the explorer window gacked on me three times wile I was trying to respond

on another note, Decc322
the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve or also known as the air bypass valve is monted on the top drivers side of the engine with two bolts and a single electronic conection.
it is about 1 1/4" diameter and about 5" long

My Ex. was doing the same type of thing a year or two ago. When coming to a stop, I would push the clutch in and the RPMs would go right down to around 300-400 and sometimes it would just die. When getting my valve covers gaskets replaced, I asked my mechanic about it and since he had the intake tube off, he looked on the throttle body and it was filled with a ton of dirt and gunk. He showed me that the valve wasn't closing the way it should. He cleaned it out and I haven't had the problem since then. I would suggest checking out the throttle body and/or the IAC.

I had the exact same problem with my 95. I replaced the IAC and problem solved. I did try to clean it first, but that didn't help. I forget what the part cost, but is was fairly cheap.

ok, it looks like the problem is fixed. the last thing I did was to clean the contact on the plunger and put a small piece of scotch bright in the hole and spin it by hand with a drill bit to clean the contact points on the IAC Valve. it stalled on me once right after that. I had driven a couple of miles and slowed down to make a corner. I don't think my computer had adjusted itself yet because the X hasn't stalled on me since. A BIG THANKS goes out to everyone on this board without you this could have cost me a few C noteS at the shop to get it fixed

Hi ski_lars,

Thanks for letting us know what the fix was.
