i used degreaser to clear my engine (fyi- worked well) & rinsed off w/ water. but now i get the smell of the cleaner in my car after starting. it smells bad!! & its been a week! i am guessing the ac/heat vents are pulling it in from the engine compartment. is there a cabin air filter that i can change? did i spray something that would cause this? i tried respraying w/ water especially in the vents by the windshield wipers (in case some got in there)

any suggesstions??

Thx in advance

I have heard of FrigiFresh that you pour into your hood cowl (wiper area) to kill bacteria and remove odors...Lysol as well. Though it may just make it worse as you have a chemical in there already.

I dunno, but you may hose out that area???

Did you rinse the compartment really good? Take it out on the highway for a few miles and get it hot and get some air moving through there. It'll dissapear quickly.

I clean my engine and compartment every month on my vehicles. I use GUNK's heavy duty degreaser. The odor lasts up to about 2 weeks for me. No biggy for me though. It should go away soon. I also wash the engine and compartment down with the soapy water left over after washing the buggies. This helps get rid of the cleaner odor faster.

GUNK....yes thats what i used! glad to hear the smell goes away:D

i have re-rinsed it several times & did some long hi-way runs yesturday. still smells, but not as bad.

if still around in another week i may try the lysol.

thanks guys!

Use Simple Green. Cheaper, lasts alot longer then a small can of degreser and doesnt stink(that bad) works great on a warm(not hot) motor. spray on, leave on for 10 minutes and rinse off.

I use simple Green as well. It is biodegradeable, not sure if the others are.

where do you get SIMPLEGREEN at?

kmart, etc. if its not in the auto section, try the aisle w/ the floor cleaners, etc.

in retrospect i think simplegreen would have been the way to go!
