Anti-theft & fuel system

I think the 1999 has PATS and the 1998 doesn't so there will be less anti-theft problems moving the 1998 PCM to the 1999 body. I think the 1999 body is set up for a returnless fuel system (65 psi) with the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) in the fuel tank while the 1998 fuel system (40 psi) is a return type with the FPR on the fuel rail. You'll either have to reduce the fuel pressure from 65 to 40 psi or get a custom tune for the 65 psi fuel pressure. I think I've read that the 1998 OHV V6 will bolt up to the 1999 5R55E but I don't know if all of the holes line up. Which transmission do you plan to use? Are both vehicles 4WD or 2WD?

Both of the explorers are 2wd ive cheked the numbers printen on the transmissions and they seem to have the same numbers (p97gt-7006-bbr) and on the tail of the trans is p95gt-7a040-bar. Is there any other place i should look to se if they are compatible . Bolt pattern seems to be the same ?

I greatly appreciate the help.

sensor differences

The OHV has a synchronizer while the SOHC has a camshaft position sensor. You should use the stock OHV engine wiring harness.
Many states and metropolitan areas prohibit installing an older engine in a vehicle because of less stringent emission requirements. Does Phoenix have an annual vehicle emissions inspection?
The OHV and SOHC exhaust configurations are different. You should use the OHV exhaust system unless you customize the exhaust system.
The 1998 may have a two inch thick radiator core. The OHV has a tendency to blow head gaskets when it overheats. Use the radiator with the thickest core.

Yes we do have an annual emission test but i have a it registerd to a small town so i wont have to take it to emissions. :) also i did notice the difference on radiators and exhaust system im just goint to transfer my original exhaust and radiator becuase it is thicker . Do you think i can use the transmission on the 99 it has the same numbers to my 98...

Thanks again!

Check the plate on the driver door. If the transmission code for both is "D" then they both have the 5R55E. If one has a transmission code "T" then it has the 4R55E (4 speed).

The Explorer only had the 4r55e in 95-96. '98 & '99 6cyls used the 5r55e.

^that. it will bolt in.

here is what you will probably end up doing. take the motor, motor harness, exhaust, trans, trans harness (there were two different ones, one that went from the motor to the trans that had no connector, and the the other had 3 connectors right around where the motor and trans mate up), and well, you have the rad, so that to. those you will need. now, to play it safe, its more work upfront, but who wants to go back in there a second time right? you will want to grab your pcm, key ignition switch, the pats collar around it, and the pats module that is behind the passengers air bag from the rolled truck, and use them in the truck you are wanting to build. the 98 has pats, and if i am correct (someone correct me if i am wrong and fast for the o.p.'s sake) the truck will not run if you use a sohc pcm for a ohv. because of that, the cheapest way to get around the pats issue is to reuse the donors. however, because of all that, you will want to also take the fuel lines, and the fuel pump from the donor and use it in the builder. the reason for that is like what mentioned earlier, one has a return style fuel system, the other doesnt.

Tank you guys . I appreciate the help
