I have a 93 xlt with a 4.0 that is stock except for the air cleaner. The motor has spun a rod bearing and with 150000 on it I am going to put a new motor in.

Do i have to stick with the 93 4.0 or can I go with say a 91,92,94 without having to change wiring harnesses or anything funky like that.

The blocks and heads are just about identical between those years. (there are very minor differences)

Computer wise, the only difference I can think of offhand is that 93-94 had EGR, 91-and most 92's did not. 91's had 1 O2 sensor, by 93-94 that grew to 2 O2s. Most of that doesn't apply to you though..

Bottom line is you're ok for any block and heads from 91-94. Might as well keep your intake if it's undamaged.
(clean it up a little). And now would be a good time to port and polish the heads while you're at it.

what he said and if you are attempting to do it yourself, make sure you get the FORD FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL they cost more than chiltons or haynes but will provide you with so much more detailed information

Actually, even a 1995 engine will work as long as you change the intake manifold and other miscellaneous plugs.
