Engine swap

I purchased a 01 Explorer Sport Trac with a 4.0 to swap in my 02 Explorer XLS, but when it arrived the engine looked entirely different. How much work would I need to do to get this engine running in my 02?

What’s wrong with your current motor? Tensioners let go?

I would think it would work, you’d likely just have to strip a fair amount of parts of your current motor and put them on the 01.

I’m sure someone with a more definitive answer will chime in.

Strip it to a long block and swap everything over from your original engine.

Strip to a long block, if memory serves, intake manifold, thermostat housing and senders, valve covers, engine harness, probably the rail and injectors, and the balancer are what need to be changed, I'm sure I'm forgetting something but that's out the gate stuff you need to change over.
