The temperature dial in my 2008 Mercury Mountaineer has started to fluctuate greatly, spiking all the way up the top where my engine is super hot and the sensor goes off but it will usually idle in the middle. It's also taking up to 20+ minutes for my heat to flow warm. How should I troubleshoot this problem?
