I swamped my truck yesterday and it took in water, it wont turn over and all it does is click when i turn the ignition. iam going to drain the oil and change oilfilter and plugs. anything else i should do?

You have done what is called hydrolocking your motor. Basically, a cylinder or more than one, has filled up with water, and since it doesn't compress at the same ratio as air does, it siezes the motor. It can be temporary or catostrophic.

First step, pull all the plugs and see if it turns over with the plugs out. Stand back, cause if it does, it will spray water everywhere. That is a good sign. Reinstall spark plugs, fire it up and let it run for a little while to get all the remainin water vapor out of the intake and exhaust. Change oil and air filter.

If it doesn't turn over, pull the starter and bench test it. If the starter works fine, then don't bother with the oil change, you have something in the rotating assembly, probably a rod that is bent, siezing the motor. This is the catostrophic portion I mentioned above. Time for a new motor or at the very least a rebuild.

I had a friend who had a jeep have this happen to him. Needless to say a slight bit of alcohol may have been incorporated... but his stalled, which is the worst thing, cause then they tried to start it back up - IN the water - and the next thing you hear was this loud BANG - like a gun shot. Yup- hole blown right through the head.

Hope you have the easier fix! If not, I would suggest picking up a used motor at a junkyard if you can find one. If the road leads you there and you need to find one, check out www.car-part.com <- Has a list of all parts available in junkyards in a particular area. This site has helped me out numerous times... especially when you have a 25 year old cadillac that they dont make parts for any more... ESPECIALLY the cheaper cost!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!
