Engine torque absorber?

This may be a stupid question, but what is the purpose of the little shock absorber looking thing that connects from the engine to the frame? Also, how do you tell if its good or bad, and where can you buy another? Thx.

Ok, after some research, its called the engine damper, which is pretty self explanatory. But where can I buy one of these?
