This morning about 5 minutes after setting off for work the yellow/orange "engine" warning symbol came on. According to the handbook this is an ECM fault. After turning engine on and off the light stayed on, although obviously the engine had remained warm.

Drove it back home and swapped back to old car so as not to cause any damage.

Any ideas, I assume that a Ford stealer would plug in a diagnostic tool and look at error codes, but are there any common causes for this warning to come on ?

I'm afraid that it could be just about anything. The only way to know is to use a code reader and go from there. You can check to obvious, like is the fuel cap on properly, can I hear any vacuum leaks, is the engine running ok and so on. After that no code = no idea. Sorry.

Thanks Howard, just contacted Duncan Clarke (guy in Aylesbury who replaces the timing chains) who I bought it from, he has the diagnostic equipment, so will go there in morning.

Just hope its nothing serious !

~He's probably re-used the old gaskets like he did on mine, so you'll probably need the OOM12 kit doing....

Diagnosis is left hand cylinder bank running lean.

Reset, has not re-occured today 40 odd miles.

Duncan suggested it may be a sensor, but checked American side of forum tonight, which has similar posts suggested it may be a gasket leaking as per BlueKa post !

I'd get the OOM12 kit done if I was you, with the new style tensioner done to be on the safe side, I ended up paying Duncan £2600 to sort my engine out after it went splat and he never changed the gaskets!

cos they were rock solid less than 3 months after they should have been replaced...

That sort of wear takes place over years not months

I didn't bother taking it back, cos I knew I'd get a load of crap, So I got the legend that is Howard to sort it out for me!
