I have a 2000 explorer sport . I have had an on and off problem with the enigine only staying running if I apply some gas (pedal) . It used to come and go but now its all the time . I had work done once and they said some kind of sensor was dirty . Does anyone know what sensor and where it is located so I can clean it ? Thanks alot . I need this done asap because its killing my brakes driving it like this . Also while im here i have another slight problem . Sometimes when i just start driving , the temp gave after about 2 miles will go all the way up for a couple seconds and then come back down to normal range . I air temp from the heater also is not consistent , it will get warm then cold then hot ect.ect.

IAC Valve. It's located on the top of the throttle body. I had to replace it, cleaning didn't do nothing for me.

Check your coolant level. If its normal then you probably need a new thermostat.

Iac sounds right- had that with mine, but cleaning it worked for me, starts and runs everytime for years now.

Cleaned the iac valve . didnt work , but i used some cleaner at work not valve cleaner . Put it back on and beat it with a hammer and its working now . Thanks fo rthe help guys . Gonna start workin on the heat issue now lol . when i turn the heat on there is a faint electrical smell . Not like burning smell , more like say a fried circuit board smell ??

I am glad it did work for you. Mine was going in and out - probably the coil itself was bad, so I had to replace it.
