So, my 2000 ex is having a problem that has happened before. It will only start if I'm giving it some gas. I can turn the key and it will try to turn over with out giving it gas, but won't. As soon as I press the pedal in while turning the key, it starts up.

Thing is, is that I need to always be giving some gas or it stalls out and turns off.

This happend in the past, and I would get it started while giving it some gas, and then driving it for a few miles, it would start functioning normally. This past week I could drive it all day and it would never fix itself. I always had to keep the tack reving at least 500 rpm.

Please help!

Now, this may be wishful thinking, but it could be a fuel filter or pump?

IAC valve.

Throttle position sensor is gone or dirty. Plenty of threads on this one already. Some say clean the sensor with carb cleaner but don't it will destroy the butterfly valve. I know some people sell noncorrosive solutions that you can us to clean it up.

hmm fuel filter eh, maybe. I guess that could make sense.

swetrid: whats the IAC valve (sorry pretty new to this stuff)

thanks

throttle positioning sensor. I think that may be it. I'm going to look in to that.

holding down the gas does not actually give gas. It opens the throttle plate only. That being said I would first check you IAC motor. I would remove it and clean the area and also clean the throttle body itself with some good throttle body cleaner. If that doesn't work then more than likely you will have to replace it. Are you getting a check engine light?

IAC. Search on it and find a million threads.

IAC valve.

Hey, thanks guys. Pulled the IAC valve off and cleaned it. Things are running fine now!
