My fuel gauge moves up and down erratically while driving. Sometimes from1/2 to full, 3/4 to empty, and any combinations of ranges in between. The "check gauge" light come on when the needle moves. I also have the message center and keep it set to "miles until empty". This number goes down steadily regardless of what the gauge indicates or how it moves.
According to the wiring diagram I have, both the gauge and the message center indicate how much fuel is left by the varying resistance on the sending unit in the tank. This makes me think the problem is not the sending unit. Where else should I start looking for the problem?
