Hey Guys,

Have a problem here ive had a check engine light for a while now and it turns out it is an evap code:eek:. I hear this issue is not easy to diagnose and fix. Where can i start to fix this problem? I have a 97 xpl sport with 125,000 miles. Thanks in advanced.

How about revealing the code? Makes a big difference in diagnosis...........

I dont know what the exact code is but my mechanic basically said it was an evap code??? Prob not that helpful but thats all i got.

Also my gas mileage has been really bad...220 miles for a tank?

I had this problem on my 96 ranger, and it was the evap canister in the engine compartment. It really doesn't do a whole lot other than condense fuel vapor so it can be reburned. I think it cost around $100 and was easy to put in. So if you really want to make your code go away, try that. Also, I believe the same code (if yours was the same as mine) can be generated if the fuel cap is on loose.

thanks casey for the response...i already changed the gas cap...i brought my truck to autozone and they told me it was my gas cap went away...great. they reset the code and it came back...my mechanic hooked it up to what i think is a more sophisticated reader and told me it was an evap issue...My mechanic has an older explorer i have to find out if the evap canister from there will fit if not ill search ebay. Thanks again.

No worries. This was years ago, and now that I think about it, it wasn't the can itself but an inline solenoid that attached to it. Refer to your Chilton.

Chilton?

Same problem I have. Replaced all the vacum lines under the hood and looked at the lines on the canister which is in the back drivers side. Replaced the gas cap and codes still keep popping up?
