right then the ex is still idleing at 1000rpm in gear and 1400rpm in park i've cleaned the IAC and MAF plus changed air filter if i unplug the IAC the engine stalls if i unplug the MAF nothing happens when i plug it back in the revs fall slightly then rise again. Also i noticed when i was taking the IAC off just at the back of the engine there is a thing (looks like a turbo actuator) with a arm connected to the top of the engine but the arm had come off can anyone tell me what this is or what it does.thanks for any help on this problem.

I think that your cleaning of the IAC did not fix it and it may have to be replaced. See if the valve moves freely on the shaft. The other item is part of the Variable Induction System (VIS). This controls the flow of air inside the intake manifold. Basically the valve moves above 3000 rpm to aid the intake pulses to blend together to form a more efficient mix.

Hi
My EX is developing similar idling problems after two reasonably long trips and the addition ( and subsequent removal ) of a CD Changer. It has been suggested that Fuel injector cleaner might help but I'm not a great fan of these products and surely fuel should already be clean ?
I am going to try and clean the MAF and IAC this weekend and will hopefully provide a positive report back. With respects to the piece that is part of the VIS - Does this be connected to anything in particular or not ?? If it should so please can you advise what / how or point me in the right direction.
I've also found a flat ribbon steel cable ( there appear to be two ) at the rear of the engine bay which does not seem to be connected to anything adn a pipe which sticks up near to the right of the radiator with a hoel in it ( no top / cover ) - Any suggestions would be warmly welcomed.
Many thanks to you all for a splendid Forum !! :(
