So ive managed to break the outter bolts on the exhaust Flange but the 2 inner ones are stuck. Weird thing is there is no nut on the end of tht bolt and i have no room to get a good angle to try to pound it through. In the middle of dropping the transmission and must remove y pipe. Any suggestions?

This may not help get those broken bolts out BUT I've cut the center section of the y pipe out on a few vehicle and then used band clamps to bolt that section back in. This allows a quick way to remove the middle section of the crossover/y pipe that will seal right back up..

The last one I did it to was a late 1980's f-150. Just be removing that center section we could move/push the down pipes off the manifold and get enough room without dropping the pipe off the manifold.

this is what I mean by a band clamp.. http://www.amazon.com/SmartParts-120250-Joint-Aluminized-Exhaust/dp/B0043DSGX8

Their studs, once the nuts are off the studs remain in the exhaust manifold. IIRC

Right on just what i was thinking, makes sense they are studs because when i hit it with the impact it didn't do **** at 200lbs but didn't think of the bands, thank ya sir's

Well they are definitely bolts. Bent ones that are lodged in there and stuck in the manifold itself. I cut the exhaust in front of the muffler, going to cut it before the Y and hopefully just swing the pipes out of the way. No room to pound the bolts out, spent most of today trying different things but nothing worked.. sigh

I got so frustrated at that job that I pulled the heads off to get those rusted and broken nuts and bolts off so I could replace the manifold gaskets. Its not necessary to do so, but sometimes the long road is easier on your nerves then the labor involved. I agree cutting the pipes is easier, but it may be a good time to address those rusted bolts anyway.
