I have stock exhaust on my 99xlt. I had a small fender bender a year ago and since then theres a rattling sound coming from under the truck. i narrowed it down to the exhaust because nothing else under the hood or truck was damaged. the rattling was like metal scraping metal when the truck was parked. well i put the truck up on the lift and with my mechanic we looked at the muffler. needless to say the whole backside of the muffler was rusted out and had holes in it. the two brackets that hold the muffler up were the cause of the rattling sound. now i have read around about back pressure and how the 4.0 V6 loves it. with the holes and what not is that causing me to have less back pressure? also what are some ideas for new mufflers? its a dual in single out muffler and ive looked and looked and cannot find any that are dual in single out...

I dont think it would mess with it much. I put a Flowmaster super 40 on my 95 4.0 X and gutted the cats and it seems to have a lil more top end but the low end didnt seem to be affected. If it was Me I would still have the muffler changed out before the rust spreads and causes more problums.

i got single in and dual out 40 series flows. Somehow when i start up it up it rattles and when i am at a red light i hear something rattling as well. And my flows r not even touching my bumper and its makes a rattlin noise so i dunno whats cause the noise either. I even had my gf bro dad lower my flows like 2 inches and it still rattling so does that mean i got a exhaust leak or something coming loose in my connections when they installed my exhaust or what.

no i wouldnt think thats in the exhaust. i know for a fact that it was my muffler making the sound bc when i lifted the truck up i could see that the brackets had been rubbing somewhere. i could see the metal scratch marks. then once the other broke it ceased. see now you have a single in dual out... i wonder if an exhaust shop would take that same muffler and reverse it and install it the other way. how does it sound?

i am eventually going to get true dual exhaust
