exhaust noise

Hello all~
I have a 1994 XL 4.0L OHV, and when it idles I hear a popping out of the exhaust tip and it seems like it is missing a little bit.... I wonder if the spark plugs need attention or what? thanks

When was the last time they were replaced? Does the exhaust smell any different when it "pops"?

If you felt so inclined, you could run a cylinder balance test to see if the fault is isolated to one cylinder. On a '94, the computer can run the test for you. See cylinder balance test at www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html
