I have a 94 ford explorer, 4 door, 4wd. While idling or moving at slow speeds, I can hear a high pitched/chirping noise from the rear passenger side of the truck. I can't hear it at higher speeds due to the outside wind noise. My question is: Is the noise due to a leaky exhaust? If so, how do I fix it. Any suggestions????

Thanks.

Are you sure it's not the squellers on the brakes rubbing on the discs.

I believe that I know what you are talking about. I can hear the noise while the truck is in park and idling. It sounds like someone is barely blowing a whistle (a constant sound, but not that high pitch). I don't think that it is the brakes.

Just another guess, but it could be your fuel pump.

Mine has the same thing. Under the muffler, there is a small weep hole to leak out condensation. The water is being bubbled out by the exhaust and sounds like a chirp.

Start it up, set the parking brake, block the wheels, and get under there and look for a leak. The exhaust shouldn't be hot so you can feel around. Temporary fixes like tapes and pastes usually don't last long. Might need to retighten a bolt, or replace a gasket. Shops usually don't charge much to weld a fix in place.
