exhaust options 97 xlt 5.0...

i got an xlt awd 5.0. 97. i figured id just buy a dual inlet single outlet flowmaster and have an exhaust shop weld it in with a tailpipe without a silencer. they said it couldnt be done i needed a muffler with a flange, i assume to bolt on where the old one comes off after the second(ridiculous)cats. what are my options for those that have put exhaust on their explorers. thanks.

I'm with Al, go someplace else that knows what they are doing.

If you do take it to a custom exhaust shop make sure there is a way to at least seperate/take off the exhaust. I've heard of horror stories of custom exhaust being 100% welded together (which isn't a bad thing in theory) but If you ever work on something that requires removing it you have to cut it.
