I have an '01 XLT which I've played with a little bit over the past few months, although nothing to do with the exhaust, so it could still be considered stock...I'm more inclined to spend my money instead of my time and let a pro do it, but the exhaust is the next big mod I'd like to make. Any reccommendations? I feel like a dual system might be hard w/ the spare where it is, but I might be wrong. I'm concerned with sound and power, so for either a single or a dual, I'd just like to hear some experiences with different set-ups, brands, and models. Thanks, y'all!

Dual exhaust has good sound if you have a V8 but you are also gonna pay a bit more for it. Generally an aftermarket muffler and removing the second cats does the trick.

I offer a MAC catback system. It is mandrel bent 3" with 3.5" polished tip. I believe you will not be hindered one bit with the single. I also offer several other systems. But all catbacks are bolt on systems. I really like the mac quality. Contact me for more information.

I'm not sure about the v6's but my v8 sounds awesome with a Y-pipe collecting the two pipes from the secondary cats, then one tube straight back with no muffler. It is quiet at idle but loud, LOUD! when you hit it hard!

Hi ya',

I also am gonna do a exhaust mod 1st. I'm goin' 2 a exhaust making shop :hammer: & have them put me on 2 glasspacks behind the cats {cut downpipe 'Y', make it 2 pipes} then 3" pipes the rest of the way back to at least the rear axle with turn down tips.
I love that 'good old glasspack muffler' sound. :) Vrroomm, blap, blap, blap ;) :) Will prob'ly be a little higher pitched note with my V6.

i'd be careful it sounds like ur gona loose ur backpressure and not enjoy the outcome

I have dual 40 series flowmasters on my 01 sport and I like how it sounds and I still got the 4 cats still underneth my sport.

But I wanna like take out 2 of them eventually and see how the X will sound when I remove them.

Are there really 4 cats under the explorers? I think i only have two on my 98 xlt with a 4.0 sohc, but do i also have 4?

Does anyone have the mac system and how does it sound and perform?
