Exhaust recirculation mod???

I saw this on ebay for about 10 dollars... will this work, or is it something i could do by myself and i'm really just paying for the instructions???

I just found another claim on ebay that says it will add 15 hp, what do you guys think about this one???

YOU ARE BIDDING ON A ELECTRICAL DEVICE TO REPROGRAM YOUR OXYGEN SENSOR TO GET THE "PERFECT MIXTURE OF FUEL AND OXYGEN SO YOUR CAR WILL RUN AT IT'S PEAK LEVEL. HERE IS WHAT IT WILL DO. Every new car, and most cars produced after 1980, have an oxygen sensor. The sensor is part of the emission control system and feeds data to the Engine management computer. The goal of the sensor is to help the engine to run as efficiently as possible and also to produce as few emissions as possible. A gasoline engine burns gasoline in the presence of oxygen .It turns out that there is a particular ratio of air and gasoline that is "perfect", and that ratio is 14.7:1 A stock cars ratio is 16.7:1 This device will make your car have the "perfect" ratio therefore it will maximize and boost the performance of your car. If there is less air than this perfect ratio, then there will be fuel left over after combustion. This is called a rich mixture. Rich mixtures are bad because the unburned fuel creates pollution and it will slow your car down. If there is more air, then there is excess oxygen. This is called a lean mixture. A lean mixture tends to produce more nitrogen oxide pollutants, and in some cases it can cause poor performance and even engine damage. The oxygen sensor is positioned in the exhaust pipe and can detect rich and lean mixtures. You are bidding on a device that plugs in to the wires on your o2 and reprograms it for the perfect mixture. The mechanism in most sensors involves a chemical reaction that generates a voltage. The engine's computer looks at the voltage to determine if the mixture is rich or lean, and adjusts the amount of fuel entering the engine accordingly. The reason why the engine needs the oxygen sensor is because the amount of oxygen that the engine can pull in depends on all sorts of things like the altitude, the temperature of the air, the temperature of the engine, the barometric pressure, the load on the engine, etc. When the oxygen sensor fails, the computer can no longer sense the air/fuel ratio, so it ends up guessing. He he, I just saw the exhaust recirc. mod on Ebay, and was going to post it and ask WTF? Notice he says he won`t give you a picture?
I never thoght exhaust was rerouted into your intake. As far as I know it goes strait out the pipe! There is a temp. controlled way to draw hot air from around the exhaust manifold when starting cold, but the idea of exhaust gasses going directly in is wierd. Crankcase gasses yes, but com`on.
LOL, I got this crazy picture in my head of exhaust manifolds hooked directly to intake manifolds. We could save the environment! I gotta get a patent!

I`ll take those chrome muffler bearings tho` if ya still got`em Mrboyle :D

They actually have the potential of .5 hp if installed using a metric cressent wrench! :D
Exhaust is actually rerouted into the intake, through the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recuirculation) system, but this only occurs above a cretain speed under a constant throttle. It has no effect on the engine performance under acceleration. The thing about the O2 sensor is a load as well, since the vehicle is designed to opperate at the "perfect" 14.7 to 1 ratio, not 16.7 to 1 like the idiot says. Also the only thing the thing he is selling does is bypass the O2 sensor signal and put the car in to open loop, which causes the vehicle to do the oppisite of what the person is claiming, and he is assuming that the people that buy his product don't know that if their O2 sensor fails all they need to do is replace it. He makes it sound like it is part of the exhaust system and can't be serviced.

I actually remember about that egr valve now, but never gave it more research. Is it just a pollution control thing? And how much is sent back into the engine? I tend to avoid learning about all that pollution stuff.

That fuel ratio IS a standard thing though, that all engines are designed to achieve, so I gotta go with mrboyle on that too.
lets all join ebay and buy up all his stuff and then put off paying until he gets mad that he is being "burned" while trying to make an honest living duping us Explorer fans..;)
 






I don't see how burnt up, hot air can be recirculated into the intake AND increase power. It's a bunch of bull!

He is saying that it is creating LOSS of power, and by eliminating it you will GAIN power!
 






EGR also occurs on startup... as well as reducing knock. You can think of it like an octane booster...

This guy is full of crap.
