I had a friend with a honda that made his own exhaust pipes and ran them straight out of his car with no cat converter or muffler. he claimed that he got a lot of extra horspower and torque. Would this work for my MOuntaineer? If so what size tubing would i need to use?

You NEED a cat...

I'll bet your friend lost some torque.

Impossible...Hondas have no torque to begin with :D j/k

Definitly use a cat. Your stock one is pretty good so I would leave it and do a cat-back exhaust system. Use the search button on this page to search for exhaust. Many people on the site here have exhaust systems including myself.

It's going to be loud and won't sound as good compared to a Flowmaster or something. My 50 series sounds 10x better than the straight pipe I've ran before. Mine was a mishmash of sizes, 2 1/2" off the cat, then 2 1/4 over the wheel well, and then exited out a 2 1/2" pipe. Costs only like $40 to get your muffler replaced with a straight pipe but it's worth it to go and get a performance muffler which will give you more horsepower with a better sound.

Edit: Never take advice from ricers, always get a second opinion.

I bet that Civic sounds like a suped up Briggs and Stratton.
