I thought about this on another thread.......and I figured it could get more action, IF it had it's own post.......so here goes:

Has anyone EXPERIMENTED with their switches on these 1st GEN vehicles??

I mean the switches.........passenger side and driver side, door locks look exactly like the window up/down activation switches..........EXCEPT for the plastic pin that orients the switch with the female plug in section.

So, I'm wondering: IF ONE WERE TO CUT OFF THE PLASTIC PIN (white part in pic)......Could the same switch be used for all the applications (doors locks and windows)???

The rt/lf door lock switches use a different shape plastic pin "L" or "U" shape to NOT have them interchangeable (lf to rt). The plastic pin color is also different, a sort of red on the door switch vs. the white on the window switch. My guess would be that FORD would put different part#s to increase PROFITS.

Or maybe just door lock switches, right to left, vis versa......if the plastic pin was cut off.

I checked the wire diagram I had but, it didn't show the inner workings of the switches.......AND........I don't happen to have an extra switch to experiment with.

Aloha, Mark

heh, this should have been in the "modified" forum :)

I have thought about ripping all of the watershield, everything out of the door and dash panels, and making aluminum panels with robust toggle switches and so forth.
But then I would only do that if my interior somehow got trashed. But it's a neat idea anyway. I think that's more than what you're getting at...all you want to do is change some of the switches.
