94 X
Last year I had a 94 X that I threw 35's on a stock everything and went wheeling. The price was damn near free since I had the tires for my Jeep which wasn't done. 3.27 gears didn't treat the tranny too good and killed it. Fixing it sounded like work so I parked it. A few weeks ago picked up a loaded 94 that had been rolled in the snow. Perfect....time to do work! Most important thing is I actually want to do this one decent, but still on a budget. I'm not being a total cheap ass, but I still need some cash to finish my Grand.

V1.0 how I got it. $75 for a runner....looked like hell but it ran and drove awesome.

Cut up and haggard as hell!

The start of V2.0. Decent minus the roof and fender/hood. 113K miles and loaded....with premium sound and memory leather seats :p:

I took V1.0 and salvaged the body panels, motor, rear axle, part of the roof and scrapped the rest. V2.0 Chop-A-Toppin the front

Replacement tacked in

Just quick ground down and threw some paint on to keep the rust out. Will probably do a hack bondo job when I do a Rustoleum special paint job....need to swap on V1.0's hood, door, and fender before that happens.

Inside put back together

DSC01024.jpg

I'll be wheelin in style!

DSC01021.jpg

Rear axle was basis for everything driveline related. It's from a late 80's Trooper I scrapped last year. 3rd member design, 58" WMS, 6 lug and STOCK with 4.56 gears. The gearing and 6 lug = money! My dad has some 33's mounted on chebby rims already that I'm borrowing....since I'm "building this for him"...well, once my Jeep is done he can use it.

DSC01015.jpg

The wheels....pretty nice rims and very much street tires but they'll work for now. Have a set of 15" steelie rock crawlers I need to find some tires for.

DSC01019.jpg

Found a complete, non-disconnect waggy D44 from an 89 or so for $200. A little wide at 62.5" WMS. Spacers on the back axle will fix the difference.

DSC01017.jpg

.....and now time for me to go back outside and drop out an 8.8 and slam in the trooper axle. Then go burn some stuff in. I love this thing

Wow man great work! Deff. subsribing to this!

Quick question on the sensor in the rear axle....is that just for the ABS or does the speedo get based off of it also?

****Edit*** I think it's just for ABS. Since I don't have the rear driveshaft in I went to move it while in 4wd....forgot to lock the hubs. Speedo spun. Looked underneath and I saw the cable drive at the tail shaft.

Good-bye 8.8. Wisconsin rust fought me the entire way

DSC01028.jpg

Starting to clean up the trooper axle. Should be able to move the perches and get it in tomorrow.

DSC01029.jpg

You call that rusty!?

Here in michigan, thats what most 2008's look like already :p:

Pretty cool build.

Slow progress the last few days. Got the perches cut, flipped and the axle mocked up underneath. Need to set pinion angle and burn them in. Ran into an issue getting a conversion u-joint....will have one to try tomorrow. Need new leaf bushings too. Ended up burning them out. Once I get those minor parts, and new brake lines, the back will be done.

Half a lift. When I level the front out the fender height is 41-42"

How about hitting everything with a wire wheel and rustoleum as you put it in? Would look a lot better and slightly slow down the rot.

Axle has to come out anyways for a final burn in after I tack the perches and shock tabs on. I'll do a quick layer of paint then. Am on my way shortly to an interview 3 hours away....starts tomorrow....so with any luck this project will be put on hold for a bit.

Been awhile with nothing happening. Got a new job 3.5 hrs away which kept me busy with moving and other crap the past 2 months. Then finally went and got the exploder and brought it back with me yesterday.

Cross member will get more braced, but it's good for now. Goal is to have it drive out of the shop tomorrow with a SFA.

HOLY HUMONGOUS PICS BATMAN!!!

Ooops :D Fixed that.....

Todays progress. Gotta go with the wifey right now for something stupid....hopefully this doesn't take too long  Gotta make some front shackles and then I can get the rear mounts tacked in.

Question on shackle angles....for setting it I figure that with no weight on the spring the shackle should pretty much be straight up and down. Basically, am I going to be pretty close to decent setting the rear location with the shackle like this? Or do I need to pull it back a little so it's past vertical. I think at full compression, when the spring is flat, the shackle should be pretty flat.

IMAG0035.jpg

Heres the shackle. Just got one done.

I think (i may be wrong, others can chime in but its what i did with my brothers SAS) the shackles should be forward a but during full droop to stop them from "inverting"

lookin good keep up good work

i like this build!! nice work so far as well.

+1 on the shackles being *slightly* forward at spring rest position.

by the way, did i see locking hubs on the old TTB? if so, want to sell them? im interested... and i have paypal.

oh another thing.. might want to take a leaf or two out of those front packs, since they look pretty stiff, im sure that wagoneer was a heavy sob. you'll get way better flex with a bit more squish to you're springs.

This is what my rear mounts look like. Am not 100% sure where I want the bolt position so I just made them adjustable.....am setting it up in the middle hole with the shackles vertical. Will obviously brace the mounts to the frame. Have to tack in with 110 fluxcore good enough to where I can move the vehicle over to the 220V outlet. Am also going to cut the back at an angle about with the bottom of the frame and put a skid plate of sorts to the frame so there isn't a lip to get caught up on.

Yes on the hubs. PM me.

For the springs I'm going to see how it sits with a full pack. I can always take out a few later.

Got the axle under it. Have a whole bunch of positive caster which I'll take care of later with a cut and rotate of the C's. Just need it to drive around the shop for tomorrow.

IMAG0038.jpg

Will reuse the track bar too. Need to cut off and rotate the mount back though. It'll look stock after that.

IMAG0039.jpg

Sittin pretty  (Don't mind the jacked fender, hood and door....I've got unbent ones from V1.0 that I'll put on) I had to move the rear mount quite a bit back....Original placement sent the leafs flat along with the shackles. Now the shackles are ~30 degrees rearward at full droop. Am in the middle hole at the rear mount so could go forward 1" if its an issue.

IMAG0041.jpg

Front is a bit higher, but I can put taller rear perches to compensate. Just have the stock isuzu ones sandwiched in there right now.
