how do you check to see if the cam position sensor is bad?

you dont .it would throw a code if it was.
 












if theres any trouble in that circuit it should throw this code...P0340

thats anywhere in the circuit,wiring,pcm,sensor.

why do you suspect the sensor is bad?
 






got a random cylinder misfire code at 5500 rpms the other day in real cold weather followed by chirping but no other code
 






cam position sensor vs synchronizer

The SOHC V6 cam position sensor is totally different than the distributor type synchronizer utilized on the OHV V6 and V8. The sensor itself has no moving parts so should never result in a chirp. From posts by other forum members, the SOHC V6 will not start or run with a bad cam position sensor.
