Anyone know if the compressor from the 90's explorers interchanges with any other ford compressors??

I was checking on advance auto's website and it looks like it may interchange with the units from early 90's tbird 5.0 cars (the ones with the intake like the 94/95 mustangs).

can anyone confirm/deny this or have any interchanges they know about?

much cheaper to get another compressor from the junkyard than for $$$ at the parts store.

some compressors will interchange I cannot tell you which. A junkyard compressor is NOT necessarily a good deal. If you want to know more about AC go to the useful THreads forum and read the thread on converting.. it ended up being far more comprehensive than that. It will be a good introduction for you.

ps. if you wanted to do a Mod... I'd Mod in a Sanden....got a machine shop handy ?

Rangers?

The Explorer/Ranger/Aerostar all used interchangeable compressors... FORD mainly used the fx-15 and fs-10 (check me on this) during the years of 91-98... maybe after....

neither compressor makes me stand up and cheer.

Will not be easy to mod one in, but you could. DO NOT install a junkyard compressor. DO not install an AutoZone et al rebuild. Buy a rebuild from an AC parts distributor if you can....or new.

Remember these compressors are not world class. (like Sanden, York or others). I have a 2 year old quality rebuild and will be seeing (come warm weather) if the problem I started having at the end of last summer (if it still a current problem )is compressor related and if I need to discharge and troubleshoot the system (if so I will do a photo post on it - I do think the compressor may be acting up on mine). I also want to try out the variable orifice tube.
