I just put a rebuilt transmission in my 1996 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4X4 4.0 V6.
Has 197k and had 0 issues at idle before the trans swap under went.

My problem: It will not turn over. Battery is fully charged, terminals are clean and tight, ect ect. I turn the key and I hear one tiny click. I went underneath the starter and had somebody try to start it but the starter doesnt do a dang.
I'm checking the solenoids now...but what else could be wrong? I know I want anything but to remove the tranny back out...could it be the starter cuz it was working PERFECTLY before. It looks original.

HELP!!!!!!

Only so many things it could be... Could be that the solenoid went bad, could be that you blew a fuse when you were R&Ring the tranny. Just need to go step by step to see if you are getting power all the way down to the starter when you turn the key.

My money is on the trans shifter linkage being out of adjustment. That will definitely keep it from cranking.

Yeah, I assume it's something small...like I missed an electrical connector. Thanks for the reply

I'm going to learn more about this...is the shifter on the trans supposed to be all the way left or all the way right?
Thanks, I will look into this...

Of course...Ima idiot. Forgot to bolt up the starter grounding wire. Put it in, the Explorer fired up. Tranny didn't shift great. Had to rev it for the gears to engage. Did my math wrong and had way too little fluid inside the Ex. Filled it up to 1/2 a quart low and tranny works perfectly. Success! :D

Am I to assume 2000StreetRod's thread helped? I know his threads have helped me so many times when I overlooked something simple. Good to hear it's running good for you.

there is no ground wire to the starter, but whatever was you connected seems to have corrected the problem. congrats!

LOL, The grounds are ALWAYS what I forget to hook up as well. Had the same problem on the Gran Prix engine swap I did about a month back.

I think he means the smaller wire from the switch. But now I think about it he wouldn't even get a click without that connected.

I have no idea what he means.

The starter has a ground wire that comes down to the bottom bolt of the starter.
koda2000, look here. # 7 in the diagram. That is what I missed.

BTW, tranny was great until it started slipping. It's a little less than 1 quart low...and was working perfectly beforehand.
